SUNO Knights Athletics Volunteers at Saints Home Games, Strengthening Community Ties
NEW ORLEANS- September 9, 2024 - The Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Athletics Department is making a powerful impact off the field by volunteering at New Orleans Saints home games throughout the 2024 football season. Committed to building strong community connections and promoting teamwork and character, SUNO Athletics is proud to participate in this initiative under the leadership of Director of Athletics James A. Matthews, III.
On August 25, the SUNO baseball team took part in the Saints' final preseason game, while the men's basketball team volunteered at the Saints' season opener on Sunday, September 8. This marks the beginning of a season-long commitment, with SUNO Knights scheduled to volunteer at every home game.
"Our involvement with the Saints offers our student-athletes the opportunity to give back to the community while embodying the principles of teamwork, service, and leadership," said Matthews. "It's a great chance for them to make a difference and develop skills that go beyond the court or field."
This collaboration underscores SUNO Athletics' dedication to community engagement and its mission to cultivate leaders who display character both in sports and in life. Through this volunteer effort, the Knights continue to make a lasting impact on the New Orleans community.
