Three Knights Named HBCUAC Players of the Week

NEW ORLEANS [January 17, 2025] -- For the second consecutive week, three basketball players from Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) have been selected as HBCU Athletic Conference Players of the Week. Jordan Harris picked up Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week. Donte Briggs was named Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week, and Jamal Gibson swept Men's Basketball Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row.
Harris averaged 21.3 points per game in three contests last week, leading the Lady Knights to two victories. She hit 47.8 percent of her shots from 3-point territory. Harris scored 27 points on seven made field goals in a victory over Voorhees University on Tuesday. In Saturday's win over the University of the Virgin Islands, she put up 11 points, two rebounds and two assists.
Briggs put up 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals in three games to claim his third honor. His most productive game was on Saturday with 13 points, three assists and two rebounds against the University of the Virgin Islands.
Gibson averaged 29 points and 16 rebounds per game in three contests. He increased his double-double streak to 49 games. With his 37 points against Fisk University on January 6, he surpassed 1,000 career points. His 17 points, 19 rebounds with 16 on defense, three steals and two blocks led the Knights to a victory over Voorhees on January 7. Gibson picks up his ninth and 10th weekly honors and leads the nation with 436 points, 292 rebounds, 15.3 rebounds per game and 189 field goals.
