Since assuming the role, AD Matthews has spearheaded the resurgence of SUNO Athletics, marked by record-breaking performances, exemplary community service, and an unwavering commitment to the holistic development of student-athletes.

• Relaunch of Athletics Program: Tabbed to lead SUNO’s relaunch of its athletics program in 2021, Matthews added two sports in 2023 and increased student-athlete enrollment from 35 in year one to 120 in year three.
• Strategic Direction: Provides strategic direction for coaches and staff, ensuring compliance with NAIA and conference rules, managing department budgets, academic progress, and community engagement.
• Fundraising: Developed the program's first-ever sponsorship and advertisement package, garnering support from local businesses.
• Staff Development: Expanded staff to include assistant coaches for women’s basketball and volleyball and launched an internship program to train and mentor students interested in athletics and communications.
• Academic Success: In the program's second year, 40 percent of student-athletes maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher and were named to the year-end conference honor roll.

• NAIA/Conference Involvement: Served as conference men’s basketball committee chair and athletic directors committee secretary for two years, and led the creation of the conference basketball schedule.
