Olveda Pitches Shutout as Knights Defeat Stillman 7-0
In an exciting second game of a three-game series, the SUNO Knights shut out the Stillman Tigers with a 7-0 win on Saturday, at Wesley Barrow Stadium in New Orleans, LA. This victory in the Regular season HBCU Athletic Conference elevated the Knights' record to 13-11 overall and 11-3 in the conference.
Peyton Strahan and Kerrigan Edmondson led the charge, each securing two runs. Danny Aleaga Fonseca, Enrique Herazo Jr., and Kyler Shepherd each added a run to complete the scoring. Edmondson contributed two RBIs which included a gutsy squeeze play bunt that singled to third base, bringing Shepherd and Herazo home, expanding the Knights' lead to 5-0. Miles Bowens and Dylan Jimenez, each recorded an RBI.
Joey Olveda took the mound as SUNO's starting pitcher, delivering a 7-inning shutout. Correcting their errors from the first game of the day, the Knights' base running improved significantly as Bowens, Fonseca, and Shepherd each had a stolen base.
Reflecting on the team's performance, Head Coach Olen Parker, Jr. shared, "I'm proud of how we bounced back this game. The first game today is not who we are as a team. We had too many mental errors that cost us the game, but the second game showed that we have a short memory and can overcome adversity. Tomorrow's game is critical for us to maintain our competitive edge and win the series."
The Knights are set to face the Stillman Tigers again on March 23, 2025, in the final game of the three-game series, aiming to conclude on a high note at their home ground, Wesley Barrow Stadium. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
