February 28, 2024
The SUNO Knights entered the GCAC 2024 Hope Credit Union Men's Basketball Championship tournament as the No. 7 seed and showed what got them to running in the middle of the pack this season. Jamal Gibson notched his 28th double-double of the year, grabbing 13 rebounds and nearly tying his career-high with 33 points. The freshman added two blocks to cap off another impressive performance. Isaiah Lewis nearly had a triple-double with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Taj Gilyot added 15 points and 6 rebounds, shooting 5-11 from the field and 2-5 from beyond the arc.
The Knights' tough play in the paint gave them an early lead that ballooned to 15 points at the half. Despite several threats to climb their way back, the Ambassadors were unable to overcome the Knights' strong play in the frontcourt. As a team, the Knights outrebounded the Ambassadors 49-33 and connected on 30-47 free throws. SUNO's rebounding accounted for 20 second-chance points and 48 points in the paint.
The Knights continue their quest for the title on Thursday against No. 2 Philander Smith University. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. CT.
