Men's Basketball Looks to Continue Conference Win Streak at HBCUAC Crossover
NEW ORLEANS [January 2, 2025] –Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Men's Basketball is headed to Alabama for the second of two HBCU Athletic Conference Crossovers. This week's Crossover, hosted by Stillman and Talladega Colleges, will take place January 3-7. SUNO will play all four of its games at Stillman College's Birthright Alumni Hall.
The Knights (5-9, 4-1) have been hot, dominating their opponents with their only conference loss coming to Wiley in overtime. Led by Jamal "Tall" Gibson, SUNO went 3-0 in the first Crossover on their homecourt, including a 70-58 win over HBCUAC top-ranked Stillman College.
Gibson sits atop the HBCUAC in rebounds per game with 15.8 and is second in scoring with 21.0 points per game. Against Stillman, Gibson dropped 31 points and snatched 27 rebounds, both season-highs for the 6'8" forward.
Transfer guard Tyon Thompson is second in scoring with 175 total points this season and will play his former team, Fisk University, for the first time since transferring.
As a team, the Knights sit second in the West Division behind Tougaloo, and fourth overall in the HBCUAC. They are also first in the conference in rebounds with 42 per game and fourth in points per game with 73.6.
