Knights Fall to Crosstown Rival Dillard in First Meeting of the Season
New Orleans, LA - The SUNO Knights took on their crosstown rival, Dillard Blue Devils, for the first time this season on Tuesday, September 17, in New Orleans. The Knights could not pick up the vital road conference win but competed through all three sets. The Knights were led by sophomore Malaysia Hudson who notched five kills. Defensively, it was, of course, Armoni Harris who continued to lead the pack for both teams with a match-high 17 digs.
In the first set, the Knights got off to an early 7-5 lead thanks to play from Hudson and freshman Taszia Adkinson. Unfortunately, an error helped spark a 9-1 run for the Blue Devils and the Knights could not supply a run of their own and lost the first set 25-17. In the second set, the Blue Devils continued their momentum and got a 4-10 lead. The Knights continued to battle back due to play from Hudson and freshman Trinity Bloodworth who earned 1 of her 7 assists in this set. In the third and final set, the Knights got off to a slow start and were down 6-14 but continued to show their fight as this team knew how to have that next-play mentality. Hudson, Adkinson, and standout sophomore Armoni Harris helped cut the lead to 4 but it was too little too late as the Blue Devils would go on a 7-4 run and pull away and take the third and final set.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, September 21, when they take on the Wiley Wildcats in Marshall, Texas, at 1 p.m. CT.
