May 12, 2025
SHREVEPORT, LA [MAY 12, 2025] - SUNO Knights Baseball, seeded No. 5 in the Shreveport Region of the 2025 NAIA Baseball Opening Round, will take on the No. 4 Ottawa Braves on Monday, May 12. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. CT. Fans can watch the regional games from Pilot Field on the campus of LSU Shreveport on LSUS Athletics YouTube.
Led by second-year head coach Olen Parker, Jr., the Knights set a program record with 24 wins this season. As a team, SUNO has scored 388 runs on 426 hits and is batting nearly .300. They've raked in 315 RBI, reaching base at a clip of .415.
Ottawa posted a 38-14 overall record and climbed as high as No. 19 in the national rankings. The Braves are led offensively by Brian Parry, who boasts a .423 batting average and a .527 on-base percentage, while Ryan Wilwers anchors the pitching staff with 76 strikeouts and a 1.63 WHIP.

The Knights pitching corps is young but resilient. Freshman Christopher Nuñez has made six appearances and has an ERA of 4.84. His last appearance was a no-run, no-hitter in a 27-0 blanking of Stillman College in the HBCU Athletic Conference championship tournament. Utility player Enrique Herazo, Jr. has made nine appearances on the mound and has a 4.86 ERA and 31 strikeouts. At the plate, Herazo has scored 22 runs on 30 hits, driving in 21 RBI. Joey Olveda has five wins on the mound, and Brycen Dartez has four.
SUNO's offense is led by Miles Bowens, who has lit up opponents with 50 hits, 41 runs scored, and 49 RBI. He has also clocked nine homers. Kyler Shepherd and Kerrigan Edmondson have contributed their fair share of offense, 46 and 47 hits, respectively. Shepherd leads the team with 26 stolen bases, Edmondson leads the Knights with 57 runs scored and has 42 RBI this season. Senior third baseman Damian Lantigua has added 47 hits, 41 runs scored and 31 RBI.
Parker knows that good teams find ways to win. The Knights have done that this year, despite a few bumps in the road. "We are a young team, but we have found our footing in critical games. Teams we didn't beat last year, we've beaten this year or at least battled them closely, including Talladega. We have to play the best teams to be the best, and competing in the NAIA tournament is one way of accomplishing that goal."
Coach Parker and his Knights face No, 4 Ottawa University in the NAIA Baseball Opening Round on Monday, May 12 at 11 a.m. The winner faces No. 1 LSU Shreveport at 6 p.m. Ticket information is available at lsusathletics.com.
