SHREVEPORT, La. [May 12, 2025] - Southern University at New Orleans Baseball fell to the Ottawa University (Kan.) Braves 6-0 (boxscore) Monday morning in the first game of the 2025 NAIA Opening Round in the Shreveport Regional.
After a scoreless first and second inning, the Braves got on the board, scoring one run in the third and fourth innings. SUNO was able to stay close, putting up another scoreless inning in the fifth, but the Braves capitalized on pitching placement and scored in each inning thereafter to defeat the Knights 6-0. Ryan Wilwers got the win for the Braves, pitching a complete game and striking out nine Knights.
Joey Olveda picks up the loss, despite striking on six Braves in five innings pitched, Derrick Robinson, Jr. finished the game for SUNO and grabbed one strikeout.
Weather has delayed this year's opening round games, pushing back the start time for SUNO's Tuesday matchup. The Knights play Tuesday, May 13 at 1 p.m. CT in an elimination game against Mid-American Christian (Okla.). Mid-American Christian fell 13-6 to Johnson (Tenn.) Monday.
